In a confidence vote, members of a legislative body, such as a parliament, are asked to express their support or lack of support for the government or a specific policy. If the government loses a confidence vote, it may be required to resign, triggering a potential change in leadership or new elections. Confidence votes are an important mechanism for maintaining the stability and legitimacy of a government. **
